If life is about creating and maintaining meaningful relationships. What steps can you take to understand yourself and others better? This is a question human beings have been asking since the beginning of recorded history. In fact, typologies and cosmologies have been spun to answer this question.

These 5 strategies will assist you in achieving that goal:

Handwriting Analysis

Handwriting can tell us a lot about a person. Here are some interesting points about your handwriting style.

Slant
Handwriting that slants to the right is usually representative of an individual who is open and sociable. This person gets along well with many people and is likely to have several friends because of their good social skills. An individual who’s handwriting slants to the left, however, appreciates alone time and often enjoys working unnoticed as opposed to in the limelight. Lastly, if an individual’s handwriting neither slants to the left nor the right, he/she is a person of reason and often hides his/her emotions.

Size
If your handwriting is large, you likely enjoy being the center of attention and willing to be in the spotlight. Large handwriting is a theme amongst many famous actors. On the other hand, smaller handwriting is representative of someone who’s often quiet and/or shy.

Color Analysis

Just as your handwriting can reveal a lot about you, so can your choice of favorite colors. These are the colors you wear often or the predominant color of things that you own.

Although the meaning of colors is open to interpretation, here are some common characteristics of those with these favorite colors:

Red
Red is the favorite color of those who are passionate. Those who choose red are often brave, impulsive and aggressive. Reds are ambitious and constantly pushing to reach their full potential in life. Lastly, red can also be representative of a person who has a short tolerance and is quick to judge others.

Yellow
Yellow is the color of those who have a big imagination. Yellows are often adventurous and enjoy exploring new things. A person who chooses yellow is wise, always learning and values all things related to strengthening the mind. Yellows also have a very good sense of humor.

Green
Green is the favorite color of someone who embraces nature. Those who choose green are often peaceful, hopeful, calm, gentle, and sincere. As they value such peace, greens often avoid confrontation as a way to preserve harmony. Greens also tend to be modest.

Purple
Purple is representative of those who enjoy being unique. Purples often express creativity and are artistic by nature. A person who chooses purple is a person who is sensitive and particular about certain things.

Blue
Blue is a person who is tranquil and caring. Blues possess strong character and are often wise individuals. Although loyal and devoted, blues can often worry about things which ultimately results in pessimism.

Orange
A person who chooses orange as his/her favorite color is one who enjoys social life and activities. Oranges are very popular and they like to live an exciting life. Other characteristics of oranges include fearless and curious.

Pink
Pink is chosen by those who are loving and affectionate. Pinks have the softer qualities of red – they aren’t as aggressive or passionate. Pink is representative of a gentle, motherly figure who values protection.

White
The color white symbolizes purity and innocence. White is representative of youth and the simple life. Lastly, since white is often associated with innocence, those who choose white tend to be naïve.

Black
Black, the absence of all colors, is the favorite color of someone who is mysterious. Those who choose black are those who like to keep their emotions and other feelings to themselves.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ®

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) has been used for pedagogy, career counseling, team building, group dynamics, professional development, marketing, family business, leadership training, executive coaching, life coaching, personal development, and marriage counseling. There are 8 traits associated with the MBTI®, as each trait is represented by a relevant letter. See the image below to learn more about each trait:

The Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese Zodiac, traditionally called Shengxiào, is a complex system based on calculating a 12-year mathematical cycle. Originally created in ancient Chinese history, the Chinese Zodiac differs from Western Astrology in the fact that it focuses on the year in which a person was born, as opposed to the month. The Chinese Zodiac also differs as the creation of it originated from a myth about a great animal race. Each animal to cross the finish line was given a place in the Chinese Zodiac. However, Western Astrology bases its system on the sky’s 12-month constellations.  The Chinese Zodiac is now being studied and utilized all over the World to further understand a person’s personality.

Here are the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and the years:

1. Rat: 1900, 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008

3. Tiger: 1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

9. Monkey: 1908, 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016
10. Rooster: 1909, 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Each animal, categorized into four different trines, represents a complete personality profile. “Trines” are groups of similar animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Below are the four trines and which animals belong to each:

First Trine
The animals that belong to the first trine are the Rat, Dragon and Monkey. People with these signs are usually individuals of great power who can bring great good or great evil. Although all the animals of the first trine possess the qualities of a great leader, each sign takes a different approach to handling situations.

Second Trine
The Ox, Snake and Rooster make up the animals of the second trine. These animals are representative of an individual who pays close attention to detail in his/her planning. Members of the second trine are diligent, natural leaders, as they are also known to value loyalty and charity.

Third Trine
The third trine consists of the Tiger, Horse and Dog. Individuals with any of these signs are independent, productive and often impulsive on their humanitarian causes. As members of the third trine don’t particularly enjoy taking orders, they are often rebellious. However, members of the third trine are more willing to listen to those they love.

Fourth Trine
The Rabbit, Sheep (Goat) and Pig are the animals of the fourth trine. These animals are representative of an individual who is often calm, philosophical and graceful. They are polite and they possess good manners. Although the animals of the fourth trine have great awareness, they can also be naïve, insecure and pessimistic at times.

Each sign belongs to a trine. Determine your Chinese Zodiac sign and learn more about what your animal says about you.

Western Astrology

As previously stated, Western Astrology differs from the Chinese Zodiac in the fact that it’s based on the band of constellations that is created by the Sun and Moon’s movements throughout the sky, in a 12-month period. Also, rather than focusing on a year, Western Astrology places an emphasis on the month and day you were born. Depending on these factors, an individual represents a sign of the Western Zodiac.

Since there are 12 months in an Earth year, there are 12 signs. Each sign is representative of certain personalities and characteristics of an individual. Below are the 12 signs of the Western Zodiac, accompanied by their dates and a brief description of their traits.

Aries: March 21 to April 20.

Aries are the most outgoing of the 12 zodiac signs. Competitive by nature, an Aries is often brave, courageous, and a natural-born leader.

Like Chinese astrology, each Western Zodiac sign says something different about your personality.
