Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator (MBTI®) Assessment

{#/pub/images/23837687_s.jpg}Carl G. Jung first introduced the psychological type theory behind the MBTI® assessment in the 1920s.  During World War II, Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Briggs decided to take Jung’s theory a bit further by creating an inventory of personality preferences.  The idea behind this undertaking was to help women who were entering the industrial workforce for the first time.  The results assisted women in identifying jobs where they might be best suited. The first publication of the Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator (MBTI®) questionnaire came out in 1962. Research continues to be ongoing, and as such, hundreds of studies over the past 40 years have been conducted, attesting to the MBTI’s validity, consistency, and test-retest reliability.{#/pub/images/mbti1.jpg}

With 1.5 million assessments administered to individuals annually, CPP Inc.®, the publisher, considers The Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator (MBTI®) assessment "the world’s most widely used personality assessment” tool available to date. The MBTI® is a questionnaire measuring psychological preferences designed to extrapolate the way in which a person makes decisions and perceives the world.  Each question asked is based on accepted human practices. No answer is correct or incorrect.  Being more knowledgeable about the behavior by which a conclusion is reached allows for a better understanding of an individual’s reactions to situations, valuations, inherent abilities, potential interests, and underlying motivations.

The Myers-Briggs® Type Indicator (MBTI®) assessment identifies personality type based on how a person decides preference in each category.  Each person’s personality type is expressed as a four letter code.  There are 16 different personality types possible (please see below).

Each letter within a type identifies a personality preference.

Extroversion (E): Obtaining energy from being around people and involved in things or projects.

or

Introversion (I): Energy is sourced from within self; drawing from personal thoughts and ideas.

{#/pub/images/27866703_s.jpg}

  Sensing (S):  Take in information that is concrete and take notice of the details.

or

Intuition (N):  Prefer to draw meaning and results based on patterns and impressions for the overall final objective.

 Thinking (T): When making decisions, analytically apply a basic truth while removing self to objectively decipher a conclusion.

or

Feeling (F):  When making decisions, weigh points-of-views and values whilst trying to identify with both sides for civil result.

Judging (J): Preference for a planned and organized life.

or

Perceiving (P): Preference to live life with an easygoing, unconstrained attitude adjusting to new information and changes with desire to enhance the experience of last minute options.

Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese Zodiac is said to be more than 2,000 years old, emerging from the Han Dynasty. The Chinese Zodiac differs from Western Astrology in that it is divided into twelve cycles, years depicted by animals, instead of months, as shown in the Western Horoscopes.

There is a legend that claims on New Year’s Day Buddha invited all the animals to join him; however, only twelve arrived.  As a reward for their attendance, Buddha promised to name each year after them, based on their arrival, beginning with the Rat. The Ox was said to be the first animal to arrive, but the Rat sat on his back, jumped off upon arrival, and as result was first.

Chinese Astrology is primarily known because of the animals that represent each sign and the year with which they are associated. However, very little credence is given to the fact that the elements and other properties are part of the Chinese Zodiac and are therefore very important when calculating one’s Zodiac. Without taking this fact into consideration, it is not possible to garner a complete and accurate analysis or forecast of oneself, only a very basic interpretation.

At the same time in the West, when translating the Chinese Zodiac, it was not taken into consideration that besides the animals associated with the year, there are also inner animals assigned by the month and secret animals assigned by the hour. The animal assigned to a person by year depicts how that person presents themselves to the world and how the world views that person.

During translation of the Chinese Zodiac into English, because many of the symbols, were perhaps difficult to understand, some of the animals depicted in English could possibly have several meanings that don’t actually exist in Chinese tradition.  For instance, a rat could be a mouse, a pig maybe a boar or a ram, or an ox a cow.  Plus, to keep things simple and interesting for those wanting to learn more about the Chinese Zodiac, it was easier to provide a simple, basic translation so everyone could participate in finding out more about their animal counterpart and characteristics.

FengShui practitioners, when evaluating space and energy alignment in a person's home, often use the Chinese Zodiac. This practice enables the practitioner to determine the best way to bring peace, harmony, and balance to their client’s environment, as well as helping the client to achieve their highest potential.

The Chinese Zodiac is fun, unique, and exciting, providing just as much information about self personality traits and purposes in life as is revealed in Western Astrology. It is yet another tool to help each person achieve happiness and fulfillment in reaching their goals.

Western Astrology

{#/pub/images/11279843_s.jpg}

The origin of Astrology is said to go back to the days of Atlantis: 11,000 BC, and has continued to flourish through the times of Babylon, Ancient Greece, and Rome.  The theory of Astrology is based on the fact that when a star or planet such as the sun or the moon changes position, it produces an affect on the rest of the solar system.  Science does not dispute this “school of thought” only from the perspective of affecting humanity in any significant way. The phases of the moon control the tides in conjunction with the position of the sun, which affects the breeding cycles and habits of the fish, then affecting the economics of the fishing industry and the prosperity of those involved in it.

This example is then also proof of Cause and Effect, which is partly a  definition of Karma.  Humans are approximately 98% water; it would seem to make sense that humans are also affected by the cycles of the moon.  The same also applies to the movement of the other planets in the solar system. As they change position, we too feel the affects as a result of the vibrations of electromagnetic energy around us.  The reality of astrology and the way it works comes down to the fact that it’s how each person responds to the movement of the planets that ultimately creates the Affect.

It is said that in 165 BC, the Ancient Greeks created the name Zodiac to describe Astrology.  The word Zodiac is derived from the Greek word Zodiakos, the word Zonion (animal) and Kokos (circle).  These two words together basically mean Circle of Animals. This circle is then divided into twelve signs and symbols that represent an uninterrupted flowing cycle of life and growth. Each sign is classified by its quality, element, and polarity.  In Western Astrology there are four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, in conjunction with the fact that each sign has a positive or negative polarity.
