Fights. They are inevitable. No matter how great your relationship is going, you are bound to get into a quarrel or two. But don't worry. Fights don't signal the beginning of the end. They are a healthy and normal part of all relationships.

Fights show us that our relationships are growing and as people, we are also changing. Problems we may not have realized were there get brought up to the surface, and we learn about what things matter to us and what we are yearning for deep down. But the most important thing to remember in a fight is to know what you are fighting about.

In a fight, you never want to forget the reason why you are fighting. After an hour or so of arguing and no resolution, you're angry and frustrated. It's easy to forget what the argument was even about when you're mad at your partner. However, don't lose sight of what the fight started out as. When you do, you aren't learning anything about yourself, and you might start resenting your partner. That's when the relationship is in jeopardy of falling apart.

So when you get the sense that an argument is about to happen, don't immediately go on the defensive. Try to stay calm and keep your voice level. Let your partner speak and don't interrupt. You don't want the fight to turn into name calling or the blame game. Keep it productive and fair. Remember, you are different people but you are also one team in this relationship.

The next time you get in a fight with your partner, keep an open mind and just listen. Realize your needs and the needs of your loved one. Try not to take any digs at each other and truly express your feelings. Don't hide anything way and just clear the air to start fresh.
